Virgil Abloh
Visionary. Creative artist. Groundbreaking designer. These are just a few of the many titles that were given to world renowned fashion designer Virgil Abloh. Virgil’s sense of fashion and design transcended industries. Virgil Abloh’s gift allowed him to partner with and work alongside musical artists and actors such as Kayne West, Kim Kardashian, Drake, and many others. Virgil, who was a highly influential fashion designer was the creator and founder of Off-White, which is a high-end luxury fashion brand. The Off-White brand sought to pay homage to many of America’s urban cities by incorporating various aspects such as diagonal lines, white arrows, and industrial black and yellow, etc. Virgil’s designs aimed to shed light on the unique streetstyle of urban cities and to flaunt the streetwear of these unique cities. Virgil was also the artistic director for Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection.
While Virgil had a large presence in the fashion industry, he also left his footprint in other industries, including furniture and homeware. He would go on to design items for both Ikea and his own homeware line, Grey Area. This homeware line incorporated pieces with quirky features and contemporary style, such as a one-legged chair with an elevated doorstep. He also teamed up with Rimowa, a luggage company to create a see-through suitcase, which travelers utilizing TSA would absolutely love.
In addition to his many talents, Virgil also held a passion for music. While attending school and college, he would DJ on the weekends and garnered so much attention that he would go on to play at international shows. Virgil would also go on to obtain a role as a resident DJ at a Las Vegas night club in 2019.
Virgil Abloh will always be remembered as a trailblazer for the fashion and consumer industry. His work will continue to inspire other creative artists to go on to produce artistic designs that will tell their own personal stories and the stories of the cities that they originate from. Virgil Abloh was here with us a very short time, but he and his work will never be forgotten.
